Permissive user interfaces
نویسنده
چکیده
User interfaces often only support one way to do a task when the physical interface or the requirements of the task would permit other ways. In contrast, a user interface that supports multiple approaches is permissive. This paper argues that permissive user interfaces are easier to use — and even when they are not applicable for particular applications, considering permissiveness is a productive design heuristic. Many user interfaces are difficult to use yet very easily demonstrated or explained by experts — with the result that users become frustrated because hindsight makes usability problems look like the users’ own fault. The lack of permissiveness in such user interfaces explains this paradox.

A New Trust Model for B2C E-Commerce Based on 3D User Interfaces
Lack of trust is one of the key bottle necks in e-commerce development. Nowadays many advanced technologies are trying to address the trust issues in e-commerce. One among them suggests using suitable user interfaces. This paper investigates the functionality and capabilities of 3D graphical user interfaces in regard to trust building in the customers of next generation of B2C e-commerce websit...
متن کاملSelecting and Extracting Effective Features of SSVEP-based Brain-Computer Interface
User interfaces are always one of the most important applied and study fields of information technology. The development and expansion of cognitive science studies and functionalization of its tools such as BCI1, as well as popularization of methods such as SSVEP2 to stimulate brain waves, have led to using these techniques every day, especially in appropriate solutions for physically and menta...
متن کاملLearning Component Interfaces with May and Must Abstractions
Component interfaces are the essence of modular program analysis. In this work, a component interface documents correct sequences of invocations to the component’s public methods. We present an automated framework that extracts finite safe, permissive, and minimal interfaces, from potentially infinite software components. Our proposed framework uses the L* automata-learning algorithm to learn f...
متن کاملMulti-level hierarchical interface-based supervisory control
Hierarchical Interface-Based Supervisory Control employs interfaces that allow properties of a monolithic system to be verified through local analysis. By avoiding the need to verify properties globally, significant computational savings can be achieved. In this paper we provide local requirements for a multi-level architecture employing command-pair type interfaces. This multilevel architectur...
